IN BRIEF
NCCC :Think before you speak, senator told

Outgoing Senator Chirmsak Pinthong omitted to factor in established bureaucratic procedures when commenting about the job credentials required by the National Counter Corruption Commission, a police spokesman said yesterday.

"Chirmsak should not have been so hasty when judging the rank of a police officer in connection with the NCCC appointment," said Lt-General Achirawit Suphanphaesat in response to Chirmsak's remarks on Thursday that retired police officer Lt-General Wanchai Srinualnud might not be qualified for the job.

Chirmsak said that Wanchai's highest position of assistant national police chief fell below the level of director-general or equivalent, which is a prerequisite to become a commissioner.

Achirawit said Chirmsak had erred in his comparison of ranks between the civil service and the police.

Wanchai's rank is equivalent to a C-10 official, or director-general, in the civil service.

Sewage : Software spikes waterworks

The collection of a wastewater management fee imposed on Bangkok households has been postponed indefinitely because of technical flaws involving a database used jointly by the city's administration and waterworks agency.

The fee was scheduled to be in effect this month, but information about household registration in the database of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) could not be synchronised with that of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, a BMA source said yesterday.

Under the conditions of the unprecedented fee, households using more than 10 cubic metres of tap water each month would be required to pay Bt2 per cubic metre.

Expensive wastewater-treatment facilities are now operational in 20 districts in Bangkok, covering 533,551 households.

Constitution court : Ura, Udomsak appointed

The appointments of Ura Wang-ormklang as president and Udomsak Nitimontri as a new judge of the Constitution Court have become effective.

His Majesty the King signed a royal command dated Thursday endorsing the appointments of Ura and Udomsak after the Senate approved the appointments by the Constitution Court.

Udomsak had moved over from the Administrative Court to fill a vacancy and become the 15th justice.

When the bench was completed, the 15 justices voted on fellow justice Ura as their president.
