Thaksin to follow up poverty-fight trip to At Samat

Caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will next week revisit Roi Et's At Samat district, the scene of his reality show on tackling poverty in January, as part of an inspection trip to the Northeast.
"The prime minister will follow up on his fight against poverty," PM's Secretary-General Prommin Lertsuridej said yesterday.
Thaksin's trip from Monday to Wednesday is part of the campaign to eradicate poverty, Prommin said, adding that the prime minister would make a similar visit to two northern provinces of Tak and Chiang Mai on August 14.
On Monday he will visit the Queen Sirikit Heart Centre of the Northeast in Khon Kaen, affiliated to Khon Kaen University and Sri Nakharin Hospital, where he will check on the implementation of the Bt30 healthcare scheme for heart patients.
While in Khon Kaen he will also inspect two medical centres in Nakhon Ratchasima and Ubon Ratchathani provinces via a videoconference link.
Thaksin will then travel to the province's Nong Rua district and Non Sila sub district to monitor farm projects modelled on the royal theory of a sufficiency economy.
Thaksin is scheduled to spend the night in Khon Kaen's Muang district and will chair the Cabinet meeting via videoconference from there before travelling to Maha Sarakham province, where he will inspect the expansion of the interprovincial highway from two traffic lanes to four.
Thaksin is to spend the second night of his tour in Roi Et town and travel to at At Samat district the next day to check on anti-poverty programmes.
He will also inspect a new invention for irrigation called ultra low energy mist, by Kasetsart University for the effective use of water in parched areas.
