Ministry reshuffle put on hold

The annual reshuffle list for top Interior Ministry officials will not be submitted for Cabinet approval until the new Election Commission is in place.
"The result of the EC [being forced to quit] has a direct impact on the Interior Ministry over the election," caretaker Interior Minister Kongsak Wantana said yesterday, without elaborating. The selection of the five new EC members could affect the reshuffle because some of the 42 candidates were from the ministry, he said. The transfers were discussed at a one-hour meeting he had with caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and deputy premier Chidchai Vanasatidya, who supervises the ministry, before Thaksin ordered the list put on hold, he said. The list presented at the meeting was no different from an early version and Thaksin made no comments on the bureaucrats appearing on the list, he said. The list was drawn up transparently without favour, he said.
