His Majesty continues along road to recovery

His Majesty the King continues to recover well from surgery to treat lumbar spinal stenosis.
The Royal Household Bureau said yesterday the King was gaining weight and was able to walk longer distances with a walking aid. He was also able to sit and work at a desk.
The King underwent surgery on July 20 at Siriraj Hospital. Since he was admitted a continuous stream of well-wishers has crowded the hospital to sign messages. The Principality of Monaco's Honorary Consul to Thailand Sribhumi Sukhanetr yesterday signed a message for His Majesty's quick recovery and presented a bouquet of flowers on behalf of Prince Albert II. "Prince Albert II wishes His Majesty a speedy recovery and happiness," Sribhumi said. Actors including Tony Ja, Bongkot Kongmalai and Supaksorn Chaimongkol also visited and signed messages of goodwill. A group of Buddhists from Kanchanaburi visited with 1,111 sets of cake and drinking water to share among well-wishers. They also presented Bt1 million to His Majesty via the Royal Household Bureau. Bangkok City Clerk Nathanon Thavisin, after signing the get-well book, said she had asked city officials to smooth the road surface from the Siriraj Hospital to Chitralada Royal Villa to ensure a comfortable ride for His Majesty when he was allowed to leave the hospital. "Road improvements will be conducted at night so as not to disrupt traffic," she said.
