No fees for wastewater management for now

The collection of a wastewater management fee imposed on Bangkok households has been postponed indefinitely because of technical flaws involving a database used jointly by the city's administration and waterworks agency.
The fee was scheduled to be in effect this month, but information about household registration in the database of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) could not be synchronised with that of the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, a BMA source said yesterday. Under the conditions of the unprecedented fee, households using more than 10 cubic metres of tap water each month would be required to pay Bt2 per cubic metre. Expensive wastewatertreatment facilities are now operational in 20 districts in Bangkok, covering 533,551 households.
