Culture gets new head

The Cabinet yesterday approved Apinan Poshyananda as the next permanent secretary at the Culture Ministry and endorsed high-ranking personnel changes in a number of other ministries.

Apinan is currently director of the ministry's Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC). The transfer will be effective from October 1, after the current permanent secretary, Khunying Thipawadee Meksawan, retires on September 30.

Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai, as caretaker culture minister, promoted Apinan, saying he was knowledgeable in the arts, culture and religion, as well as international arts and cultural affairs.

The Pollution Control Department director-general Apichai Chvajarernpun will become the ministry's deputy permanent secretary, swapping position with Monthip Sriratana.

In a similar swap, Nisakorn Khositrat, the secretary general of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning will become deputy permanent secretary, and current deputy permanent secretary, Chalermsak Wanichsombat, will replace her.

Reshuffles at the permanent-secretary level need approval of the Election Commission before royal endorsement.
