Crime fund mulled

The Cabinet will today consider a request by the Royal Thai Police to allocate fines paid by violators of the criminal law and traffic regulations to a crime-fighting fund instead of to the government coffers.

If the request is approved, the Fund to Support Criminal Investigations will be established to oversee the spending of the money, which will be put towards the cost of solving criminal cases.

It would also be used to pay police informants and as reward money for those who provide tip-offs and information leading to the arrest of wanted criminals.
