No tapping at Prem's residence : TOT

TOT Plc acting president Chamras Tantreesukhon said on Tuesday the company had not found any evidence of a tap on the home telephones of Privy Council president Gen Prem Tinsulanonda.
He ordered an engineer to investigate the claim but nothing was found to indicate Prem's calls were being intercepted. Chamras was responding to a comment made on Sunday by Democrat Party executive member Pichet Panvichartkul, who said phones at the former prime minister's home had been bugged. However, the TOT executive admitted that telecommunications could be tapped. Three places that might be tapped are the TOT headquarters, a telephone exchange and a telephone box situated at an electricity post, he said. Chamras insisted that TOT did not record customers' conversations and only kept a record of telephone data in order to calculate charges. He said any client [of TOT] concerned about security could ask for the company to change their line from analogue to digital (IDSN). "It would be harder to tap the IDSN. However, I cannot assure that it will protect [a tap] 100 per cent," he said. Prem has an analogue system. The Nation
