Assistance for medical students

The Chin Sophonpanich Foundation has donated over Bt86 million to support 150 medical students and 336 nursing students to solve rural medical-staff shortages, Khunying Chodchoy Sophonpanich said yesterday.

The scholarships, with no strings attached, will be given over an 11-year period to students from poor families.

Medical students will receive Bt60,000 a year for six years and nursing students Bt24,000 a year for four years.

This year's scholarships will be handed out at a ceremony on Tuesday at the Bangkok Bank headquarters to 25 medical students and 42 nursing students at leading institutions such as Chiang Mai University, Khon Kaen University, Prince of Songkla University and Naresuan University, along with 247 scholarships under other schemes.
