Queen's surgery

Her Majesty the Queen will receive further laser surgery today to reinforce the lens in her right eye, the Royal Household Bureau announced yesterday.
Following successful eye surgery to implant the lens at Rutnin Eye Hospital last month after doctors discovered a small tear in the retina, an examination on Wednesday discovered a tiny scratch on the lens.Doctors decided to perform laser surgery to correct it and reinforce the lens, said the bureau. After the surgery, Her Majesty will be asked to rest and refrain from her official activities for six weeks. His Majesty the King's condition after spinal surgery has further improved and he can stand and walk with firmer balance, his doctors said yesterday. In their 12th statement on his condition, doctors said that His Majesty could eat more and was responding well to twice-daily physiotherapy. A large number of well-wishers in yellow shirts continued to flock to Siriraj Hospital yesterday to wish His Majesty a speedy recovery. Among them were Thai Luk Thung artists such as Kongla Lukthai, Suda Srilamduan and Jenet Khiew. Jenet said she hoped His Majesty - who was her most respected artist - would get well soon. There were also more well-wishers from upcountry. Rayong resident Somsong Sangsuwan, 64, said she left home at 4am to sign a get-well message and would stay for a whole day to greet Royal Family members who visited His Majesty at the hospital. Ayutthaya resident Mala Padungwat, 72, said she had come to Bangkok for the first time to sign a get-well message. "I follow news and pray every day, as I'm concerned about His Majesty's health. I'm so happy His Majesty's condition has improved."
