Several key police posts set for change

The short list for transfers of senior police officers has seen changes in several key positions.

They include Lt-General Jongrak Juthanon becoming metropolitan bureau chief and Lt-General Ajiravid Subarnbhesaj being promoted to a deputy police chief.

After a seven-hour meeting of senior officers, the list was released but not finalised and more alterations are expected. The transfer orders still need further consideration and final endorsement by the Police Commission before being submitted to the Cabinet for approval.

Other key changes include former Bangkok police chief Lt-General Wiroj Jantharangsee moving to the Central Bureau of Investigation, whose previous chief, Lt-General Montree Jamroon, is appointed new chief of Provincial Police Region 2 in succession to Jongrak.

Officers at commissioner level who are short-listed for promotion to be assistants of the national police chief are Lt-General Wutthi Phuawes (Provincial Police Region 1 chief); Lt-General Phanuphong Singhara Na Ayutthaya (Provincial Police Region 5 chief); Lt-General Adul Saengsingkaew (Provincial Police Region 9 chief); and Lt-General Watcharaphol Prasarn-rajchakij (Narcotics Suppression Bureau chief).
