Nungnadda advances to round two

[TENNIS] Teenager Nungnadda Wannasuk registered a 6-3 6-4 victory over Varanya Vijuksanaboon to advance to the second round of the women's singles in the US$10,000 PTT Bangkok Open circuit 2, at the Tennis Academy of Asia yesterday.
But compatriots Wilawan Choptang and Nicha Lertpitaksin-chai bid goodbye to the tournament. Wilawan went down to Lavinia Tananta of Indonesia 6-0 6-2, while Nicha lost to Indonesian Ayu-Fani Damayanti 6-1 6-1. Japan's Kaori Aoyama downed South Korea's Lee Joo-hee 7-5 6-0, while Vlada Ekshibarova of Uzbekistan came from behind to beat Lee Jin-A of South Korea 3-6 6-3 6-3. Taiwanese Kao Shao-Yuan scored a hard-fought 6-7 (7-4) 6-4 6-1 win over Parul Goswami of India. But Asha Nanda Kumar salvage India's pride when she beat South Korea's Lyoo-Shu Hee-sun 6-3 5-7 6-2. Japan's Arai Maki edged out Yang Zi-jun of Hong Kong 7-5 7-6 (7-5). Meanwhile in Kentucky, fourth seeded Napaporn Tongsalee failed to make it to the main draw of the US$50,000 Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championships, losing the final qualifying match to American Jennifer Tuchband 6-2 6-3.
