BMW, Audi put diesel in their tanks

Yontrakit Motors’ two-litre Audi A4 diesel.
BMW Thailand and Yontrakit Motors yesterday announced the debut of their diesel-fuelled cars, aiming to attract executives who want to save on fuel bills while riding on top-of-the-range wheels.

Yontrakit Motors, the official importer for Audi, launched the 2-litre A4 diesel, while BMW introduced the 520d model. They are priced at Bt2.8 million and Bt3.5 million, respectively.

Yontrakit's officials see a growth in the luxury market next year. The sales target for the A4 is 12 units per month, including both petrol- and diesel-engined models.

BMW will introduce the 520d model to its intended customers in September and delivery will start in the same month. The 520d, which is built in Rayong, is powered by the latest-generation BMW four-cylinder diesel engine. Combined with a six-speed automatic gearbox and special features, the car has an average fuel consumption of 14.5km per litre of diesel.

BMW Thailand president Frank Roesler expressed the hope that the diesel-engined version of the 5 Series would be a hit on the Thai market.

"The 5 Series powered by our diesel-engine technology will fulfil the wishes of executives who want to drive a car with an ideal combination of typically impressive performance, a high level of agility and fuel efficiency.

"With a price of Bt3.5 million and all its options, the 520d should be regarded as highly competitive and an ideal choice."

Like other new BMW models, the 520d is covered by a five-year comprehensive maintenance programme. BMW's Value Plus deal is also available for buyers who can leave a 25-per-cent deposit and pay about Bt47,000 per month for 48 months.
