Sufficiency fair in Klong Luang opens

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn yesterday opened a fair promoting His Majesty the King's philosophy of a sufficiency economy.
The event, hosted by the Agriculture Ministry and related agencies, marks the 60th anniversary of His Majesty's accession to the throne. It runs until Sunday at the Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture in Pathum Thani's Klong Luang district. More than 200,000 people are expected to attend exhibitions, join workshops or buy agricultural products. The Princess also visited exhibitions honouring His Majesty's approach to tackling poverty. One displays details the sufficiency philosophy and the King's remarkable aptitude for agriculture, while another features the success stories of individuals who applied His Majesty's principles. Along with the Asian Development Bank Institute, the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation and the Danish International Development Agency, the ministry is hosting international workshops from tomorrow until Saturday on the sufficiency economy, poverty reduction and the UN's Millennium Development Goals. An awards ceremony will be held for six "best practice" farmers of the sufficiency economy: Khian Soysom from Phetchaburi, Wichai Phrommee from Lop Buri, Thongkham Yimram from Buri Ram, Chian Wanpen from Nakhon Nayok, Sornchai Kaptapol from Phetchabun and Nung Intaklaew from Ranong. Farmers' groups also plan to present 60 tonnes of organic rice grains to His Majesty to mark his 60th anniversary.
