EU slams Thai corn

The European Union will begin investigating canned-corn imports from Thailand next month, to determine whether the Kingdom has breached anti-dumping regulations.

An EU official will come to Thailand to finalise the process sometime this year.

The investigation comes on the urging of EU manufacturers of canned corn, who accuse Thailand of dumping product in the market there.

Caretaker Commerce Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said his ministry was providing information on export prices and production costs, in order to prove Thailand had not breached EU rules.

Last year, Thailand exported Bt3.33 billion worth of canned corn, of which Bt1.34 billion went to the EU.
