True moves into the next generation

True Corp is moving its services into the next-generation network (NGN), which it expects will replace its existing network in the next five years.
Jay Jootar, head of strategic management of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and NGN for True, said his firm was now in transition from its existing fixed-line network infrastructure to NGN and hoped for enhanced performance in its networks and services for customers. It began its change to network infrastructure last year. As result, the firm will initially sell a new VoIP service for fixed lines: True NetTalk. The service will allow customers with a True fixed line, which at present number more than 2.5 million household users, to call any mobile phone or foreign telephone number through the Internet using a True NetTalk adapter, enabling users to cut their bills for these calls in half. "They will also be able to call any time at highly affordable prices," said Jay. "The service is designed for businesses or users who want to call international destinations, be it a branch office, fixed line, mobile phone or user who is accessing the Internet via computer. With True NetTalk, they can call anywhere in the world any time while using the Internet," he said. The firm will also offer VoIP to computer-users who want to call their friends or family anywhere through a computer. True NetTalk will offer two packages: a minimum monthly payment and True NetTalk Tariff. It will also provide prepaid packages by the end of the year. He said his firm planned to provide multimedia and digital content as the next step. It also expects these new services to reach 100,000 subscribers and earn revenues of Bt100 million this year.
