The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) will hold another anti-Thaksin rally soon, but not until after His Majesty the King recovers from spinal surgery, PAD leader Pibhop Dhongchai said yesterday.
The PAD will show that people's power could solve the political crisis, but everyone should follow His Majesty the King's advice, Pibhop said. The PAD yesterday issued a statement calling for all Thais to declare their opposition to caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and prevent him from becoming prime minister again. The Thaksin administration was an outlaw government and unacceptable to Thais, it said. PAD leader Somsak Kosaisuk said: "People's direct democracy is gathering strength and we will demonstrate peacefully without weapons." The group cancelled a mass protest last Friday and instead visited six foreign missions to criticise Thaksin. About 1,000 people attended the "Thailand Weekly" programme held later at Lumpini Park, where PAD leaders made speeches attacking Thaksin. The rally drew far fewer people than those held before the April 2 election. The Nation
