HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
Senate likely to be settled soon

This week the remaining 37 Senate seats should be filled after the elected senators are endorsed by the Election Commission, EC secretary-general Ekachai Warunprapha said.
The EC was expected to discuss the legal positions of the senators this week in order to confirm their election. It was still possible some of the 37 would be given a red or yellow card for making speeches at the People's Alliance for Democracy rallies. A source at the EC said the commissioners were, however, expected to endorse all of them.
'Fighting Evil' hits the streets The Democrat Party will today distribute 1 million special newspapers named "Fighting Evil" explaining the attempt to dissolve the party and including details of caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's letter to US president George W Bush. The party's chief legal expert will meet with members this week to prepare evidence for its defence when the Constitution Court considers the proposed dissolution ordered by the Office of the Attorney General.
Local elections to give popularity guide Bangkok's local elections will be held on Sunday, and although they will have no major national impact, they will be important for the two main political parties, Thai Rak Thai and the Democrats, as a test of their popularity in Bangkok. The Bangkok council and district council elections should provide a strong pointer for the national elections to be held on October 15.
