Police seized heroin valued at Bt4.2 bn

Police have seized 13 kilograms of heroin and arrested members of a suspected international drug gang at a rented Bangkok property.

They said the drugs were destined for the US or Europe, where they could fetch a street value of as much as Bt4.2 billion.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lt-General Viroj Chantharangsi revealed the haul at a press conference yesterday.

Officers raided a house in Soi Lat Phrao 112 and arrested suspected traffickers Pairoj Sangkaew, 45, and Chalermchai Thairacha, 25.

According to Viroj, the suspects told police the drugs were headed for China by air. They had sprayed them with chemicals to confuse sniffer dogs. The drugs would later have been smuggled to the US and Europe.

Police investigations continue.
