Military money

The National Security Council has asked for Bt2 billion for aircraft repair and the purchase of new lorries for disaster prevention and relief, according to caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Chidchai Vanasatidya.

He said yesterday the Cabinet would be asked to okay spending for repair of 50 F-16 fighters and the purchase of lorries for Supreme Command Headquarters' disaster work.

He said Bt1 billion for aircraft repair was necessary to ensure pilot safety.

The current fleet of lorries is now more than 10 years old.

Purchasing the vehicles domestically would save Bt700 million, he said.

The council has already approved another Bt1 billion for 290 new combat service-support vehicles for the military and repairs to 58 Royal Thai Air Force aircraft.
