Attack on Helicopter

Burmese told of dismay over shooting

The Foreign Ministry yesterday summoned the Burmese ambassador to express dismay over an Army helicopter coming under fire last Sunday.

Burmese troops shot at the chopper as it flew on the Thai side of the border in Mae Hong Son province.

Burmese Ambassador Ye Win was handed a letter that expressed "dismay and concern over the incident", a ministry statement said.

Meanwhile, Thailand and Burma held talks yesterday in the town of Tachilek to determine who was responsible.

The chopper was forced to make an emergency landing, but there were no injuries.

The shots came from near a Shan State Army base.
