FRIDAY BUG
The longest hour

The German team probably felt 120 minutes pass in an instant when it lost to Italy in the World Cup early this month.
But for a bunch of reporters who attended the 5th NPA Grand Sale press conference last week, 120 minutes would have been an eternity of tedious torture had not the pom-pom cheerleaders from UOB (Thai) stormed out to save the day.The usual press conference presents four or five speakers but with the huge numbers of banks and housing developers planning to operate booths at the 5th NPA Grand Sale, more than 30 representatives packed the stage. As the first couple of speakers did their song-and-dance, reporters seemed to enjoy hearing about what the banks planned to offer during the event. But the longer each speaker continued, the more bored the reporters became. Although only an hour had passed, every excruciating extra minute dragged on like another hour. That is until UOB bank sent its pom-pom girls capering out to dance around among the audience and rouse the groggy reporters from the grave. Seeing the reporters restored to life again, Bangkok Commercial Asset Management's marketing director Charus Fuengarom - a veteran singer, famous in the Thai music industry - snatched up the microphone. "Can I join in!" Charus joked. "I can sing!" The 5th NPA Grand Sale will be held at Central Lad Phrao, running from tomorrow until Sunday.
