Senior Army officer hit with abduction charge

Influential Army officer Khattiya Sawasdiphol and nine people met yesterday with the public prosecutors in Chon Buri to acknowledge an abduction charge filed against him in relation to a secret meeting he helped "mediate" with a businessman in January.
The major general said he was trying to set things right between Phoobes Thesbankerd and his relatives over business profits in their family company. "But a police officer ratted on me to police inspector general Seriphisut Temiyavej and convinced Phoobes to filed criminal charges against me, so here I am," he said. Khattiya and all nine others have been released on bail after they pleaded not guilty. He said he would soon file a malfeasance charge against local police in Chon Buri for accusing him of abducting Phoobes. Khattiya and Seriphisut are known to dislike each other intensely due to several conflicts they have had in the past as well as the traditional rivalry between military and police officers. Khattiya said he had filed a malfeasance charge against Seriphisut for allegedly failing to take action against a gambling den operated in Phya Thai in Bangkok. He claimed Seriphisut led a raid on a gambling den on the roof of a condominium block last month without authorisation, after the police officer's anti-vice team was ordered disbanded in January.
