FM protests Burma over border shooting

Foreign Ministry summoned Burmese ambassador on Thursday to express dismay over an incident over an incident in which a Thai army helicopter was shot at last weekend near the border.

Burmese Ambassador Ye Win was given a letter to express dismay and concern over the incident," according to the ministry's statement.

Meanwhile a joint committee held talks in Burma's border town of Tachilek to try to determine who was responsible for the shooting on Sunday.

The helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing after it came under fire, but none of the eight soldiers on board was injured.

The helicopter was delivering food supplies to the Thai border force when it was shot at.

The shooting happened near a base just inside Myanmar of the Shan State Army, one of the largest ethnic rebel groups fighting Myanmar's military government.
