Thaksin's letter to Bush is one-sided story

The alliance of three opposition parties held a press conference on Thursday to rebut the letter dated June 23 by caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to US President George W Bush.
Democrat, Chat Thai and Mahachon parties said Thaksin had committed a serious misconduct in reporting the domestic political situation to the American leader."It is deemed inappropriate that Thaksin has distorted the situation in a malicious manner. This is like a stab in the other's back with one-sided story," Democrat Party deputy leader Jurin Laksanavisit said. Jurin said Thaksin tried to portray his victory in the April 2 election in a good light even after the Constitution Court had nullified the balloting results after finding the electoral process marred by unfairness and dishonesty. Thaksin also said the opposition parties boycotted the poll out of fear for losing when the actual reason was his decision to dissolve the House without any justification, he added. Chat Thai Party deputy leader Somsak Prissanananthakul said Thaksin told a partial truth when he claimed to resume his caretaker duties because of the public demand for him to end his leave of absence. Chat Thai Party leader Bangharn Silapaarcha was among those calling for Thaksin to do his job under the condition that he must adhere to strict ethical standards and hand over his rein to the new government in a speedy manner, Somsak said. Thaksin's letter made it appear like attributing his comeback to a popular demand, he added. Democrat Party deputy secretary general Korn Chatikavanij said Thaksin's message was clear - he wanted foreigners to interfere with domestic politics in order to assist him to cling to power. The reply from President Bush was actually a snub to Thaksin because the Bush letter completely omitted to mention anything about his political plight, Korn said. The Nation
