Riders to hit the road today

Strong riders from seven nations will take on local cyclists when the ACC Track Asia Cup starts today at the Hua Mark Velodrome in Bangkok.
Fresh from contesting the first leg in Malaysia from July 7-8, riders from Bahrain, Burma, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines will be in action in Bangkok today and tomorrow. In the previous stage, three Thai riders - Wiwatchai Chuaykhun, Sitthichai Ritthisilp and Korrawik Khanthong - won their third overall crown in the team sprint, while the overall champions were Japan and Malaysia finished runners-up. The Thai Cycling Association (TCA) are fielding 16 riders, which includes some rising stars who proved themselves in the National Championships and continue to improve. This stage of the ACC Track Asia Cup will serve as a selection trial for the TCA. Only one rider - Chanpeng Nontasin, Banna Khamfu or Yuwadee Chan-in - will be chosen to represent Thailand in the track event at December's Asian Games. The TCA have also set their sights on winning the overall crown in stage two, which the Thai squad won last year. Today four gold medals are up for grabs in the men's 1km time trial, the women's 500m time trial, the men's team sprint and the men's point race. The action starts from 9am and admission is free.
