PAD cancels mass protest scheduled on Friday

People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) has cancelled its planned mass protest on Friday because they did not want to make HM the King worry. Nation TV reported on Monday.

They will instead submit letters to major foreign embassies in Bangkok concerning caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's letter to US President George W Bush.

"PAD has decided to cancel its mass protest planned at Sanam Luang this Friday because, they said, they would not like to make HM the King who was not in good health upset and worry about the political situation," it reported.

The PAD plans to submit the letter to embassies of US, England, China and Russia. It is still not clear what the letter is about and it will focus on criticising Thaksin's controversial letter to Bush.

Many political observers have criticised contents of the letter, saying that Thaksin distorted the fact and the truth about the political situation in Thailand and that it was not appropriate for Thaksin to report the situation of Thailand to a foreign country.
