Health warning for Cup watchers

Football fans with heart problems or high blood pressure have been warned to keep their excitement in check while watching the World Cup final between France and Italy tomorrow.
Dr Pratch Boonyawongsaviroj, permanent secretary of the Public Health Ministry, yesterday also warned football fans to get at least eight hours sleep before the game kicks off at 1am tomorrow. Those with a history of heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes should not get over excited or consume alcohol while watching the match, he said." Alcohol could increase blood pressure and make the heart beat more frequently, which could lead to shock and death," Pratch warned. If your pulse accelerates too quickly or you feel unusually tired you should stop watching the game, he said. Hospitals throughout the country have been warned to prepare for emergency cases during the final. Anyone needing medical help should telephone the Narenthorn Emergency Medical Service Centre hotline at 1699.
