IN BRIEF
Cabinet duties: Sorachak a VM in Foreign Ministry

There have been more musical chairs in the government ranks with vice minister in the Prime Minister's Office Sorachak Kasemsuwan being handed new responsibilities.

He has been given the additional job of vice minister in the Foreign Ministry, sources said yesterday.

The Cabinet approved his new portfolio on Tuesday.

Sorachak replaced Virachai Verameteekul and Prapas Limpaphandhu. Their terms have expired.

Virachai would take a new job in the Prime Minister's Office, while Prapas would become an adviser to the foreign minister, the sources said.

Sorachak retained his position of vice minister in the Prime Minister's Office. He has been assigned to help Deputy Prime Minister Surakiart Sathirathai campaign for the top job at the United Nations, the sources reported.

Officials at the Foreign Ministry suggested Sorachak may be Surakiart's eyes and ears at the ministry, keeping tabs on minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon. Sorachak was formerly vice minister at Foreign Affairs when Surakiart held the portfolio.
