EC okays six new parties

Six new political parties have been approved by the Election Commission, an EC official said yesterday.
EC public-relations chief Prasert Suthisonth said 15 political parties had asked for be registered. The qualifications of the six have been checked and endorsed, while the remaining nine are still being assessed, he said. The six include the Palang Phaendin Thai Party of former Thai Rak Thai member Likhit Dhiravegin and the Thai Women party, co-founded by caretaker Khon Kaen Senator Rabiebrat Pongpanit. Each has 5,000 members. They must set up four branches within 180 days, otherwise they will be dissolved according to electoral law, Prasert said.
