Thaikorn implicates Sak in land scandal

Thaikorn Polsuwan, once at the centre of the electoral fraud charges against the Democrat and Thai Rak Thai parties, yesterday filed a police complaint accusing Constitution Court judge Sak Techacharn of malfeasance while serving as a government official.
As leader of the anti-government Isan Ku Chat (the Northeast Liberation Front), Thaikorn filed the complaint with national police chief General Kowit Watana at the Royal Thai Police headquarters. Thaikorn, who left the Democrat Party in the wake of the electoral fraud controversy, accused Sak of issuing an acquisition paper for a piece of land partly overlapping public land in Chiang Mai in 1983 when he was a district chief there. The director-general of the Department of Land, Peerapol Traitasawit, said on Wednesday that Sak was not involved in the alleged scandal. Sak is one of the judges who will consider the case of election fraud against Thai Rak Thai, the Democrats and three small parties. The case could lead to the parties being dissolved. Thaikorn said he wanted to make sure the judges were clean. Moreover, he wanted Sak to clarify the land issue. Thaikorn was behind the bombshell allegation that Thai Rak Thai hired small parties to contest the April 2 election. In May, Thai Rak Thai released a video CD showing Thaikorn in negotiations with Better Life Party leader Wannawarit Tantipirom. It accused Thaikorn of acting on behalf of the Democrats in suborning Better Life to frame Thai Rak Thai with funding smaller parties. Thaikorn said he acted alone.
