Sugar price to rise next week

The Commerce Ministry yesterday approved this year's second increase in sugar prices, after manufacturers complained about rising costs.

The new prices take effect next week. The retail price of sugarin fancy packaging will increase by Bt0.75 per kilogram to Bt18.25, while white sugar in normal packages will increase by Bt0.50 to Bt18.

In March, the Cabinet approved an increase of Bt3 per kg in the wholesale price from the original price of Bt14.50 per kilo.
