Wiradech ready to make point

[FENCING] Sabre ace Wiradech Kothny will lead the Thai squad in the Thailand Open Fencing Championships against strong competitors from 12 countries at Sripatum University in Bangkok from July 8-11.
A total of 350 fencers from Australia, South Korea, Qatar, Kuwait, Malaysia, Macau, Vietnam, Singapore, Iran, India, Hong Kong and Thailand will be taking part. The competition, which is part of the commemorations of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne, will be divided into three categories - foil, epee and sabre - for the men's, women's and team divisions. "It's a good chance for Wiradech, who is now ranked No 84 in the world, and his team to test their readiness against powerhouses such as Kuwait, South Korea, Qatar, Vietnam and Singapore, who will all be sending their strongest fencers to the event," said General Chaisit Shinawatra, the president of the Amateur Fencing Association of Thailand (AFAT). "However, we believe the Thai team will gain some valuable experience which will help improve their standards before the big tournaments such as the World University Games, the World Championships and the 24th SEA Games. And we also hope they will show impressive performances because of their intensive training for several months," he added.
