IN BRIEF
gambling den raid

Criminal Court to hear suit against police for damaging property The Bangkok Criminal Court yesterday agreed to hear property-damage charges levelled against several senior police officers.

The charges were brought by two homeowners who claimed police damaged their homes during a raid on a gambling den.

Nine senior officers were named in the charges. Each has been accused of illegal entry, deliberately causing property damage and malfeasance.

The defendants include Metropolitan Police Division II chief Pol Maj General Amnuay Nimmano.

Somnuek Panasuttha and Amorn Uthis alleged last Wednesday's raid on a gambling den in Bangkok's Tao Poon area resulted in damage to their homes.

The complainants alleged police entered their homes without court warrants and destroyed windows to gain access to the den.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for August 28.
