Tourist accused of rape
Police yesterday arrested an Uruguayan man for allegedly raping an Israeli woman in a resort on Pha Ngan Island off Surat Thani's coast last month.
In her complaint to local police, the woman accused Enrique Ricciardi of raping her at knifepoint in his room on the night of June 21.After his arrest, Ricciardi, 40, denied raping the 32-year-old woman but admitted to asking her to his room to drink wine. The woman said she met Ricciardi at an Internet cafe in May. Ricciardi, in police custody, said he planned to go to South Korea in the next fortnight to be with his Korean girlfriend.
