Pallet-pool firms merge

Leading Thai pallet-pool operator Dynamic Equipment Pool Ltd and Australian-based Loscam Ltd have merged their Thai operations to further enhance Thai supply-chain efficiencies, giving a boost to the country's logistics industry.
Dynamic Equipment Pool co-founder and managing director Sirin Limpaitoon said the combined Thai operations would create a combined pool of 1.5 million high-quality standardised wooden pallets. These can be rented out to successive customers as products move through the supply chain, from factory to final retail distribution points. "The cost-efficiencies of pallet-pooling is well recognised by international manufacturers and retailers of fast-moving consumer goods," said Sirin. He added that pallet-pooling now provided a standard platform for cost-sharing. Previously, companies had to own and maintain their own pallets. The key drivers in the rapid expansion of pallet-pooling in Thailand and throughout Asia are the modernisation of the retail industry by companies like Carrefour, Makro and Tesco and the standardisation of pallets. "Loscam is helping to power these supply-chain efficiencies," said Sirin. Loscam CEO Neil McBain called the merger an important development for Thailand's logistics industry. Loscam has been promoting the cost-efficiencies of pallet-pooling in the major Asian economies for 12 years. From its headquarters in Bangkok, its network now offers pallet-renting in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam and China, as well as Thailand. McBain said that following the merger, Sirin became managing director of Loscam Asia, based at Loscam's regional headquarters in Bangkok.
