Citibank polishes up platinum

Citibank has re-launched its platinum credit card.
The bank introduced the Citibank Platinum Select yesterday to replace its existing Platinum Card. The new card, geared for the bank's well-heeled customers, offers more privileges and security, due to an imbedded chip card."Citibank Platinum Select is a real premium card that is different from the others," said Voralak Tulaphorn, the bank's card business director. "It reflects the lifestyles of our valued cardholders. Although there are many platinum cards in the market, some of them are mass platinum cards." Unique features include a "cash back" privilege of up to 5 per cent on each transaction, double-reward points when using the card abroad and more. Perks are not confined to banking. The card also covers cardholders for roadside assistance in the case of breakdowns and free car rentals when your car is being repaired. The card also offers a limousine service, reserved parking at leading shopping complexes, investment-plan advice and other exclusive offers. During the promotional period for the new card, the highest spenders each month will be given one night free in a suite at the Royal Orchid Sheraton hotel. It's the room in which Bhutan's crown prince, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, stayed during his visit to Thailand to participate in the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne. Citibank Platinum Select cardholders must earn a minimum of Bt70,000 per month, which represents around 40,000 cardholders - or 5 per cent of the bank's credit base. All current cardholders in this bracket will be given Platinum Select chip cards this month. "We plan to maintain the proportion of our platinum credit cardholders at 5 per cent of the total card base. With the added benefits of Citibank Platinum Select, the bank expects this premium card base to grow by around 10 to 20 per cent," Voralak said.
