TRT nearly sued Chat Thai and Mahachon
The Thai Rak Thai Party's legal team considered filing lawsuits against the Chat Thai and Mahachon parties for boycotting the April 2 election, a source in the team said yesterday.
But Chat Thai deputy leader Somsak Prisananuntagul said his party had never compromised the democratic process.
He said deciding not to field candidates in an election was not against the law and the Election Commission would therefore be unlikely to accept the case as it would risk having to dissolve all parties that failed to field candidates.
He said the threatened dissolution of Thai Rak Thai and the Democrat Party had nothing to do with Chat Thai.
The party source said Thai Rak Thai decided not sue Chat Thai and Mahachon as they had not broken the law, but simply joined the Democrats' boycott.
