Briton arrested for 'killing fiancée'

Police yesterday arrested British national Christopher Alan Caunter, who is wanted by British police for allegedly killing his fiancee in England last year.

A Crime Suppression Division (CSD) team arrested Caunter in Phetchaburi's Cha-am district after cooperating with British police on the case.

According to a court warrant issued in Suffolk, England, Caunter is also wanted for battery, theft, possession of counterfeit banknotes and possible involvement in selling cocaine and marijuana.

The warrant said Caunter, 34, pushed Deborah Jane Townsend, 35, out of a moving vehicle and deliberately ran over her in Suffolk in July 2005.

Caunter entered Thailand last year and was planning to invest in a real estate business with his Thai girlfriend, possibly with the money from his alleged narcotics trading in England, CSD officers said.
