SIFE contest decided today

The local chapter of Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) will today select a team to represent the Kingdom at this year's SIFE World Cup, a competition that requires students to mastermind a business strategy.
The contest will be held in Paris on September 11-13. Teams from 12 higher-education institutions have been judged on how effectively they devised real economic strategies. The choice will be announced at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business today. With the slogan "Changing the World", each team has created business and educational projects which are sustainable in the long term. They choose the project topics, target groups and the scheme's duration and develop them with an understanding of the market, ethics and finance. The exercise encourages students to develop management skills and improve the quality of life for a community. Kaisri Nuengsigkapian, chief executive officer of KPMG Phoomchai, a sponsor of SIFE Thailand, said: "The competition is not just to challenge them to devise an effective business plan but also to make a difference in their communities." The winning team will take on 40 other teams in Paris. Last year, the first SIFE Thailand team, from Chulalongkorn University, received the "Rookie" award in Toronto. SIFE is a global, non-profit organisation active on 1,800 campuses in around 50 countries. The Thai branch was established in 2004.
