No end to Thaksin regime: PAD leader

The "Thaksin regime" will survive even if the Thai Rak Thai Party is dissolved, a leader of the anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy said yesterday.

Somkiate Pongpaiboon said that even if the Constitution Court ordered the party to be dissolved, Thai Rak Thai politicians would not be banned from politics as they could remain in the political arena by joining other parties.

As a result, the Thaksin regime would stay to "cause more damage to the country", he said.

Somkiate, also a lecturer at Rajabhat Nakhon Ratchasima University, said the Thai Rak Thai politicians would join "nominal" or surrogate parties.

The Chat Thai Party would likely be the most popular surrogate party, he said.
