Cup kick-offs at Four Seasons' Aqua
The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok's outdoor bar Aqua is turning out to be a great place to watch the World Cup. Right outside Madison and the Spice Market, in the Parichart Garden Courtyard, the bar's big screen is ablaze with daily action. Adding to the fun is a special snack menu to go with the chilled wines, whiskies and ice-cold beer, including Heineken. Try the Bt650 World Cup Platter for two. It has pork frankfurter, a farmer's herb ring, weisswurst and Nurenberger sausage with pretzel bread and farmer's roll, liver mousse, schmatrz, potato salad and pickles. The a la carte snacks include a traditional hot dog, beef hamburger, sai kok Isaan, deep-fried marinated chicken wings with chilli sauce, Vietnamese spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce, nachos with guacamole and more. Call (02) 250 1000, extension 1248-9.
Huntsman lines up the shots Meanwhile over at the Landmark Bangkok, the Huntsman Pub and Garden Court are tuning in to the World Cup too, and if the matches aren't live, there are all-day replays. Satisfy your dual craving for good food and fantastic football with the awesome snack platters, featuring fries, calamari, onion rings, battered cod, kebabs and chicken wings. Score all this, plus a cold beer, for only Bt300++. Call (02) 254 0404. Remember the Rembrandt The Cafe at the Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok has gone completely Prussian (or is it Bavarian?) with its World Cup menu. Among the delicious German dishes on offer are a clear beef broth with German-style ravioli, a sausage platter served with mashed potato and sauerkraut, and roasted spring chicken with German potatoes and cucumber salad. Not full? Famous sweets from the land of the Rhine should take care of that. Try the scrumptious red-berry jelly with vanilla sauce and ice cream, or Brezel sandwiches with a variety of fillings. All of these are available around the clock for hardcore football fans. Call (02) 261 7100, extension 7505.
Live commentary as you eat Down Thong Lor Soi 18, the Loghome Dining Complex is showing signs of World Cup madness by wrapping itself in the colourful posters and flags of the participating nations. You'll think you're in the stadium as the crowd presses around the big-screen TVs in every corner with expert action analysts adding to the fun. Certified football maniacs Sena Hoi and Kiattisak Udomnak will be there with running commentaries, as will Chayanun Thepvaninkorn, winner of the Fan Pan Tae championship. Plus, there's a Sizzling Platter Festival going on - rib-eye steaks, New Zealand lamb chops, lobsters, snowfish, salmon, seafood platters and something called "pork Amiyaki" to be washed down with whatever beverage appeals. How about a Chang? Call (02) 714 7810.
If the game's not intoxicating enough At the Grand China Princess Hotel in Bangkok's Chinatown, the big new TV screen is bellowing scores and the spectators are cheering over a swath of excellent cocktails concocted for the occasion. On the list are the Munich Cooler, Frankfurt Delight, Cologne Blessing, Stuttgart Dream and Dortmund Living. They'll be served right through July 2. Call (02) 224 9977, extension 384 or 303.
