DTAC promotion makes minutes last longer

Total Access Communication (DTAC) has introduced a new prepaid call package featuring a one-year validity period, in response to the impending telecom rules issued by the national telecom regulator.
Under the promotion, DTAC is offering a new SIM card called "Simple" for Bt199. It features a flat rate of Bt2 per minute and gives subscribers up to a year to use the time they purchase. Usually, prepaid refill cards are valid from a few days to three months, depending on the promotion. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has finished drafting regulations governing standard telecom service contracts. One clause bans telecom operators from setting fixed validity periods for all prepaid telecom services. This is to prevent telecom companies from urging subscribers to quickly use up the minutes they purchase before their prepaid cards expire. Some telecom operators have said the NTC's measure would encourage subscribers to be active call takers, instead of callers, which could hurt their profits. Thana Thienachariya, DTAC's chief commercial officer, said that the new package would generate Bt200 to Bt300 in average revenue per user per month and attract 1 million new subscribers. DTAC, the country's second-largest cellular operator, has around 10 million customers and expects 2 million new subscribers this year.
