LATE NEWS
BoI backs hotels

The Board of Investment (BoI) has approved investment incentives worth Bt1.2 billion for six hotels in Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi.

Hirunya Suchinai, deputy secretary-general of the BoI, said that the six projects would create 678 jobs. They are the Khao Lak Laguna, Pakarang Property, Pakarang Resort, Kho Yol Noi Island Residence, Takola Buri Resort and Kho Lak Bandari.

Steel Intertech

Steel Intertech Plc expects sales growth of 40 per cent this year after launching two new products - high-tensile strength purlins and metal sheets - in the second half of this year. The company recorded sales of Bt328 million last year.

Steel Intertech Plc makes roll-formed metal sheets for roof and wall cladding used by factories, warehouses, and large government and private buildings.

Managing director Prasit Ounvorawong said Bt9.5 million had been spent on a new plant to make high-tensile strength purlins and metal sheets. The company will start selling these items in the second half.

Thainox order

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group has received an order from Thainox Stainless Plc of Thailand to supply automation and drive systems for a new stainless-steel cold-rolling mill.

The project encompasses basic automation as well as all main and auxiliary drives, the German company said in a press release. The new mill is scheduled to start operations at the end of next year.

With an annual production of 200,000 metric tonnes and a market share of more than 60 per cent, the Thainox group is the largest manufacturer of cold-rolled stainless steel in Thailand. In the framework of an investment programme, Thainox is expanding its factory in Rayong by adding a Sendzimir reversing cluster mill.

An international consortium headed by the French company DMS Seclin will build the mill.
