Best Western to run Phuket hotel

Best Western International (BWI) is to manage the Supalai Resort and Spa in Phuket under a three-year agreement with the Supalai Group.

The management contract takes immediate effect. BWI is the world's largest hotel chain, with more than 4,200 properties in 80 countries.

"This is going to be our first management agreement in Phuket," said Glenn de Souza, BWI's vice president international operations (Asia).

The resort is expected to have an occupancy rate of more than 70 per cent in the first year and will focus on international tourists.

Prateep Tangmatitham, chairman and president of the Supalai Group, said the four-star resort, set on 12 rai, is estimated to be worth more than Bt33 million.

The three-storey resort, which has a modern design in southern Thai style, has meeting and banqueting facilities for 300 people, eight spas and 164 guest rooms.
