FRIDAY BUG
A painter's eye for the ladies

Bank of Thailand governor MR Pridiyathorn Devakula may live a life immersed in financial figures almost 24/7, but this doesn't mean that he lacks an appreciation of fine art.
Last week, the Financial Institutions Development Fund (FIDF) joined with the Fine Arts Department to hold an exhibition of 137 paintings seized from 56 now-defunct financial companies. The auction will be held this Sunday at Queen's Gallery near the Phan Fah Bridge. While visiting the gallery, Pridiyathorn expressed his admiration for two pieces of artwork. First, he walked past a painting depicting a Thai folktale about a crocodile called Chalawan. In the picture, a lady named Tapaokaew falls into the swamp where Chalawan lurks. Soaked by water, one side of Tapaokaew's breast is clearly visible. "Even the crocodile's eyes show admiration," Pridiyathorn said to reporters. Then he strolled to another painting: a lady loosening her clothes to show her beautiful back naked from neck to waist. "Nantida [Kaewbuasai]'s back is even more beautiful," Pridiyathorn declared, recalling a memory of seeing the famous singer performing on stage in a bare-backed dress. With complicated macro economy and abstruse financial figures rattling around in his head, the central bank governor proved that he's like any other human being who enjoys the sublime beauty of women.
