Amino, Siemens in Thai IPTV deal

UK-based Amino Technologies, a supplier of Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) set-top boxes, has confirmed that it has been selected by Siemens for the first IPTV deployment in Thailand.
The deployment for Advanced Datanetwork Communication Co Ltd (ADC) has been rolled out to a substantial number of homes for several months, adding on-demand and broadcast television channels to the company's existing broadband service offering. With this IPTV roll-out, ADC - a unit under Shin Corp Plc - is poised to take a leading position within the burgeoning local broadband market, which has received strong infrastructure investment and support from the government. "Our partnership with Amino has allowed us to provide enhanced revenue generation opportunities for ADC, allowing them to take full advantage of this national technology revolution," Ryan Petty, vice president of product management for Siemens Home Entertainment, said in a press statement released this week in Singapore. The Amino range of set-top boxes - called AmiNET - as been developed and extensively tested with the principal elements of the IPTV delivery chain, including middleware, content security and browser technologies. This established interoperability ensures the smooth integration of Amino technology into any IPTV deployment using any number of combinations of third-party software and hardware suppliers, the company said. Amino said 700,000 of its AmiNET set-top boxes had been used in over 50 countries by more than 400 customers in commercial deployments and trials. "Thailand is an extremely exciting market in terms of the potential growth of IPTV," said Roy Kirsopp, vice president and general manager. "Amino leads the field for set-top box technology and by partnering with Siemens we aim to bring the most advanced IPTV technology to Thailand, while easing the integration process and cutting the time to market and deployment costs of adding value through triple-play services," he said.
