A new Thai superhero, Nano man, has been selected as the mascot for the Office of the Narcotics Control Board's campaign targeting drug abuse among young people.
Lt-General Kritsana Pon-anan, secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) launched the campaign yesterday in time for this year's International Day against Drug Abuse on June 26. The campaign also marks the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne. The ONCB announced Nano man as their anti-narcotics mascot, aimed at targeting the age group considered at the highest risk of drug addiction. "Nano man will help inform youths about the disadvantages of drugs. The hero will especially attract children. It will be like providing them with a vaccination against drug abuse," Kritsana said. Chakorn Amornset, 38, the advertising director and creator of the Nano man character said Nano man's "enemies" include criminals like gangsters who represent a threat to society. The superhero will fulfil his first duties this weekend at the events for International Day against Drug Abuse at The Mall's MCC Hall, Ngamwongwan. "Nano man will show kids how bad drugs are for them and how they can fight them," Chakorn said. Nano man's story involves a "mistake" of nanotechnology and he is committed to protecting people from harm and fighting genetically modified evil entities. The fictional character of Nano man was intentionally created as a slightly darker character in an action-hero cartoon.
