Finance Ministry consults over court ruling

The Finance Ministry has consulted with the Civil Service Commission about the status of four senior officials after the Supreme Administrative Court ruled against their appointments.

"It was technical problem and other ministries have also encountered such issues," caretaker Finance Minister Thanong Bidaya said yesterday.

Suparut Kawatkul, Finance permanent secretary, has discussed the issue with the Civil Service Commission, he said.

The court ruled on May 2 that appointments of four deputy directors-general of the Revenue Department during the past four years were illegal. They are Boonsak Jiempreecha, now comptroller-general; Wichai Jungrakkait, now director-general of the State Enterprise Policy Office; and Chor-Anant Petchpasith and Chantima Srisaengthaksin, currently advisers to the Revenue Department.

Thanong said the four were qualified but that their appointments were questioned due to technicalities.

Prairaj Sahamethapat, a former senior official at the Revenue Department, had filed the court petition, arguing that the appointments, made by Somchainuk Entrakul, then finance permanent secretary, were illegal. - Wichit Chaitrong, The Nation
