Bhutanese prince heaps praise upon His Majesty

Bhutan's Crown Prince Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck has issued a personal statement expressing his admiration for His Majesty the King.
Describing the King as "the Treasure of Thailand", the crown prince said he had heard about the Thai monarch since his childhood. "As a boy, I heard and read about your King. I have now been to Thailand many times and am familiar with His Majesty's immense services to the Thai people. Today I am a keen admirer of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Treasure of Thailand," read the statement. The 26-year-old crown prince was among 24 royal dignitaries who at-tended the celebrations of the 60th anni-versary of HM the King's ac-cession to the throne last week. The crown prince extended his stay in Thailand after the celebrations and is now in the island province of Phuket. He will become king of Bhutan in 2008, when his father intends to abdicate. His statement added: "The celebrations of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty's accession to the throne have been a fitting tribute to a special King. "It has been a most memorable and beautiful time for me. I thank the people of Thailand for their warmth and hospitality, not only during this visit but also many times in the past." The crown prince said he would always pray for the good health and happiness of HM the King and the well-being of the people of Thailand. "May the youth of Thailand receive the blessing of their King and take their nation to further peace and prosperity in the future," he said. The crown prince has endeared himself to the Thai people during his visit by his charm and easy manners. When he arrived in Phuket he wore a yellow T-shirt bearing the emblem of HM the King's anniversary and returned a wai to everyone in the greeting line.
